OMAS won a contract for a 200 TPD milling plant in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The 5-million dollar project was awarded to Omas for different reasons:
Guaranteed timeframe with execution and operation of the mill in just 12 months.
Italian manufacture of all machinery, with a 24-month warranty from start up.
Milling section with smooth roller, 300 mm in diameter for the production of fine-grade flour with high and low starch absorption.
Sterilization of raw materials to reduce the bacterial count of wheat and produce sanitised wholemeal flour.
Installation of the Galileo Plansifter with no dew point, to prevent condensation problems.
For the execution of the plant, Omas was in charge of the following stages:
Design of the building, subsequently executed by a local firm, for installation of the milling plant. The site was a brownfield inserted in an existing industrial area.
Execution and installation of the conditioning silos for wheat and flour storage, complete with First In – First Out even discharge device.
Execution of the electrical panels and automation software for the plant: all of the material was certified in compliance with the current South African laws before shipping. The assembly works took 4 months and involved personnel from 3 different countries.
The plant started production and achieved the performance levels as agreed by contract within a week of work, with regard to the flour delivery schedules agreed with the client.
Plant characteristics:
The milling plant can produce different types of fibre-enriched flour, thanks to the system to mix the flour with calibrated bran.
The mill is able to extract 80 % of baking flour with ash content below 0.55 % and less than 1 on the colour index (Kent Jones).
The flour, when required, may have a degree of starch damage up to 7-8 U.F. with resulting H20 absorption of 65-66 %.
The flour is free from organic impurities, thanks to the wheat sterilisation process carried out using the Giotto.
The bacterial load is absent since the plansifters are completely built in sandwich panels and therefore, have no dew point (no condensation).
The pneumatic conveyor has a dynamic pressure gauge to control the number of fan revolutions and limit energy consumption to 55 KWh/ton.
The milling plant is equipped with a system to add vitamins to the flour.
Performance is continuously controlled by scales connected to the SCADA supervision system for analysis of the operating costs for each recipe.
