Omas builds a new Flexy plant for Foodtec, Naval Group
Omas Industries further strengthens its presence in the global milling sector with the installation of the second Flexy mill in Angola. The new plant, located in Luanda, will be dedicated to the production of bakery flour and semolina for pasta production.
This new project is the result of renewed trust from Foodtec, an Angolan company that has chosen Omas for the supply of advanced solutions capable of processing both soft and durum wheat, and GTMB – International FZCO, based in Dubai, which is the main sourcing hub for the Naval Group.
Foodtec, headquartered in Luanda and specialized in the trade and import of food products, is evolving into a solid local production company. The company has recently expanded its activities, focusing on the production of high-quality food, creating jobs, and contributing to the country’s economic development. The construction of the first Flexy mill marked a key step in this transition, providing the raw materials for the new pasta production facility in Luanda.
In January 2021, just before the global lockdown due to the pandemic, Foodtec and Omas signed a contract for the supply of a turn-key Flexy plant, which includes the complete design and installation of the system — from raw material reception and storage to the delivery of finished products. The new facility, built according to the strict hygiene standards of food production, was installed in a four-story building designed and manufactured in Italy using a combination of concrete and steel, with sandwich panel walls and roofing to ensure maximum energy efficiency and food safety.
Omas’s Flexy mill offers unique flexibility thanks to the Leonardo roller mill technology, which allows the grinding speed to be varied and, consequently, the milling diagram to be adapted to different production needs. This ability to easily switch from grinding soft wheat for fine flours to grinding durum wheat for semolina production was one of the main reasons Foodtec chose Omas as its supplier.
Moreover, the plant is equipped with Omas’s exclusive DST (Dry Scrubbing Technology), which involves wheat debranning prior to the addition of conditioning water. This innovative technology allows better flour moisture absorption in less time, while ensuring a superior level of wheat cleanliness.
Another strength of the plant is the KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System), which allows for the recovery of energy dissipated by the roller mills, reducing energy consumption by 30%. This certified system saves up to 15 kWh per ton of wheat milled, resulting in significant savings on annual production costs, making the plant particularly advantageous both economically and environmentally.
Furthermore, the absence of transmission belts in the roller mills prevents maintenance issues, accidental breakages, fire hazards, and dust accumulation, further increasing the plant’s reliability and reducing operational costs.
The new Foodtec plant is not only an example of technological excellence but also a model of sustainability. Thanks to a combination of technological innovations, energy efficiency, and reduced maintenance costs, the plant is designed to be a long-term strategic asset for the company.
